Introduction
Through the use of the Services, Gumtree enables Users to pay for and ship items that are sold through the Gumtree Platform using Gumtree’s Shipping Offering(s) . Should you elect to make use of Gumtree’s Shipping Offering(s) you are required to comply with all Applicable Laws and the provisions of this Shipping Policy, which deal with the following:
Eligibility to make use of the shipping services and the Gumtree Shipping Offering(s).
Applicable fees.
Applicable timeframes.
Packaging requirements.
Drop-off requirements.
Abandoned items.
Complaints management and dispute resolution.
Eligibility to use the Shipping Offering(s)
Gumtree determines whether a transaction and associated item is eligible for the Shipping Offering(s) in accordance with the guidelines set forth below. Items are eligible for shipping based on factors including their nature, size, location and/or description. When you post items for sale in accordance with Gumtree’s Rules for Posting, you will be notified as to whether the item is eligible for the Shipping Offering(s) and the relevant shipping options and associated features will be made available to you.
In order to enable this feature of the Gumtree Platform and for Users to make use of this feature of the Services, Gumtree have partnered with certain trusted Service Providers, including providers of shipping, courier and logistics services, as well as providers of payment facilitation services. The use of any shipping features on the Gumtree Platform, are subject to Gumtree’s T’s and C’s, this Shipping Policy and the terms and conditions of Pargo, Gumtree’s chosen shipping partner, which terms and conditions govern the use of their shipping services.
Items which can be shipped
Gumtree reserves the right to determine which items are eligible for the Shipping Offering(s) , provided that the items meet the following minimum requirements:
Items must weigh less than 20 kilograms (Kg).
Items must have a value less than R20 000.00 (ZAR).
Items must comply with Gumtree’s Rules for Posting.
Items must adhere to Pargo’s Packaging Requirements.
Items must adhere to Pargo’s Drop-off Requirements.

Shipping fees
Users are responsible to pay all fees when using the Shipping Offering(s) and the relevant fees will apply to Users as follows:
Fees for the Seller
Should the Seller be found to be at fault in a dispute, the fees applicable to facilitate the return of items will be for the Seller’s account.
Fees for the Buyer
The fees applicable to facilitating delivery of an item from Seller to Buyer, will be for the account of the Buyer.
Shipping timeframes
Sellers are required to ship an item within 7 (seven) calendar days from date of the sale (the date on which the Seller accepts the Buyers offer). If the item isn’t shipped within 7 (seven) calendar days the Buyer has the option to cancel the transaction. In such circumstances, the Buyer’s payment will be released from the Escrow Account and returned into their Gumtree Wallet. Should a Seller want to continue with a transaction after it has been cancelled, the Seller is responsible to make contact with the Buyer in order to revive the transaction and start the sale process again.
Packaging requirements
All items must be posted for sale on the Gumtree Platform in accordance with Gumtree’s Rules for Posting which prescribe the rules for item descriptions, item labelling and for communicating material information relating to items, to Buyers. In addition, all items which are eligible for the Shipping Offering(s) must be packaged in accordance with Pargo’s Packaging Requirements. If you don’t comply with the above requirements, the following limitations to the use of the Services will apply:
Gumtree will not be in a position to deem your item eligible for the Shipping Offering(s).
Gumtree will not be in a position to assist you in resolving disputes in relation to your item.
Gumtree will not be in a position to assist you in resolving any dispute which you may have with our Service Providers, including Pargo.
Drop-off and delivery requirements
When you make use of the Shipping Offering(s) , you are required to, in addition to complying with the relevant packaging requirements, also comply with Pargo’s Drop-off Requirements.
Abandoned items
An item is considered to have been abandoned if its delivery has failed for the following reasons and the return of the item to the Seller is no longer possible either:
The Buyer fails to take delivery of the item at the chosen Delivery Address.
The Buyer fails to collect the item from the chosen Collection Point.
The Seller fails to take delivery of an item which has been returned by the Buyer and the transaction to which the item relates is the subject of a dispute which has been reported in accordance with Gumtree’s Dispute Resolution Policy.
In circumstances where an item is abandoned Users acknowledge and agree that Gumtree is entitled to take the following actions in relation thereto:
Facilitate the collection and storage of such items for a period of 30 (thirty) days, whereafter, should such items remain unclaimed they will be considered to be abandoned.
Open any packaging which may be housing an item to inspect the item in a manner which enables verifying the contents of the relevant packaging, as well the safe storage of the item.
Gumtree reserves the right to, in its sole discretion, either dispose of or sell any abandoned items, the proceeds of which will be allocated to covering the costs associated with the collection, storage, destruction or disposal of the abandoned items in question.
