How Do I Report Something to You?

How to report ads

Gumtree is a community site. We rely on your feedback to keep the site friendly and safe.

We like to think of it as the Gumtree community, "policing" the site.

On each given ad, there is a button "Report ad" where you can bring an ad to our attention. You will be asked to choose your reason for reporting it. Your choices are:

  1. Possible fraud
  2. Duplicate / Spam
    • If the same ad has been posted more than once a day in the same category
  3. No longer current
    • Please use this option if you think the poster of the ad has sold the item and not responding to your emails
  4. Wrong category
    • Please use this option if you think the ad belongs somewhere else on the site or is the wrong category
  5. Inappropriate content
    • Please use this option if you come across any ads that display inappropriate content e.g pictures that display nudity, ads that use inappropriate language, prostitution or ads that offer sex, sexual favours or sexual actions in exchange for anything.

After an ad is reported to us, we take a look as quickly as we can and then decide if we need to remove it.

Our Gumtree community helps shape Gumtree and keeps the content on the site clean, up-to-date and relevant for everyone.

How do I report scams or fraud?

If you see an ad on the Gumtree site that you suspect is Spam, illegal, or otherwise violates Gumtree's policies, please click on the "Report this Ad" link located under the ad image of the ad page.

If you reply to an ad and the person who posted the ad emails you with a suspicious request (eg. asks for money to be sent to them via a payment service), please reach out to our Business Support team at storessupport@gumtree.co.za and stop all communications with that person.

If you are the victim of fraud, inform Gumtree and your local police service.

If you have any other security questions that aren't answered above, then please contact us.
