What Does Verified Information Mean?

The Gumtree community works best when members know and trust each other. That's why we give our customers the opportunity to confirm their account information. Verifying information does not mean that someone is a good person, but it does show that they have gone the extra mile to supply Gumtree with more information about themselves to increase transparency.

How can I get a Verified Badge?

In order to get a Verified Badge you will need to confirm the following information:

Identity (SA ID / Passport)
Mobile number
Email address

What does Identity verification mean?

This customer performed a SA ID or Passport document check to confirm that they are who they say they are. Gumtree uses a third party to confirm that their South African ID number / Passport document matches their identity as per the government database. Then, using secure facial recognition software, they confirm that their stated identity matches their live photo selfie. Read more

What does Mobile number verification mean?

This customer verified that their mobile number used on Gumtree is valid, reachable and accessible by performing phone number verification. This process entails supplying their mobile number to Gumtree, receiving a real-time SMS that contains a unique PIN code and entering that pin code on our platform. If the One-Time-Pin we sent matches the PIN the customer entered, the number gets successfully verified. Read more

What does Email address verification mean?

This customer verified that they have access to the email account that they are using on Gumtree. This process entails supplying their email address to Gumtree and receiving a real-time email to that address that contains a verification link. If the unique verification link is clicked the address gets verified. Alternatively, email addresses can be verified by linking their Gmail or Facebook address to the account. Read more
