When to report
Report a user if you believe they're attempting fraud, threatening you, sharing your personal information, or violating Gumtree's rules in any way. Reports go directly to our moderation team.
How to do it
- Open your message thread with the user.
- Tap the three-dot menu or 'More options' icon.
- Select 'Report Conversation'.
- Follow the prompts - for reports, include as much detail as you can.
After you report
Our team reviews every report. For urgent safety concerns, contact us directly at support.gumtree.co.za. For situations involving threats or actual fraud, contact SAPS at 10111 or saps.gov.za.
Keep records
Before blocking, screenshot any relevant messages. You may need them if you decide to escalate the report.
Frequently asked questions
Can someone still see my listings after I block them?
Yes - blocking stops messages but doesn't hide your public listings. If you're concerned about your safety, contact our support team and we'll advise on your options.
What happens after I report a user?
Our moderation team reviews the report and takes appropriate action. We don't always share the outcome for privacy reasons, but every report is actioned.
What if someone is threatening me?
Contact SAPS immediately at 10111. Also report to Gumtree support. Your safety comes first.
