Gumtree does not have any partnerships with third party websites that facilitate transactions. Any website claiming to have an agreement with Gumtree where they facilitate transaction and payment via their website is fraudulent. These escrow sites will not provide you with the items after you have sent funds. The emails sent by fraudsters to persuade you to use their fraudulent website may look something like this: 

"Hello,

I wondered why I have not heard from you regarding the pick up cost. I will like you to update me if you have sent the pick up cost to the shipping agent such as a gift person to person through money gram and schedule pick up date and time? and if you have not I need to understand what is still delaying you. Kindly get back to me ASAP.

Thanks."

Please report any emails and websites such as this to our Business customer support team  - storessupport@gumtree.co.za at your earliest convenience. 

The best rule of thumb while using Gumtree is to meet up with the person you are communicating with the good old fashioned way: face to face
